About The Ellerbee Family
This project is a labor of love for the Ellerbee and allied families, for those who
have become a part of our family history, and for those who have interest in it.
This is for the family, regardless of the way the surname is spelled, of Edward
Ellerby and his family unit which came to the Colonial Colonies from England and
settled in James City, Virginia. It is that family, their ancestors and descendants
that this project is based on as well as all of the closely affiliated families that
have become a part of our family. The spelling of the family name in this project is
primarily spelled Ellerbee, Ellerbe, Elarbe, and was first, in this country and in
England, spelled Ellerby, however there are other variations, and as long as the family
lineage is that of Edward Ellerby, this project welcomes them as well, for they too are
family.
Very special thanks to Bobby Graham Ellerbee for all of the time and labor of love in
compiling the family information listed within the book "The Family History And Linage
Of Mark Ellerbee" that he published in 1995. Without that source of information, this
site would not have been possible in its present form. It was through this book that
gave me the inspiration and information to share the history of our family for present
and future generations.
There are loved ones that have gone home and those that have come to grace us
all, along with newly formed families, if you would like to send me an update on our
loved ones, please do so and I will update the site as soon as possible. If mistakes
are found, please let me know the changes. I hope you will find the contents of this
site as interesting in the history of our family as I have.
Below on the links are sites of interest.
Sally Small has a page for the origin of the Ellerbee name.
In the link to the book "HISTORY OF THE OLD CHERAWS" is the history of the family,
Thomas Ellerby in South Carolina starting on page 62 of the book.
April Ellerbee Moore has an informative site "A Branch Of The Ellerbee Family" who also
shares the same interests.
In the "VIRGINIA 1704 Rent Rolls" there is only one Ellerby listed in James City County
(Parish) and that is Elizabeth Ellerby, for Edward Ellerby died in 1704.
My father, James E. Ellerbee, went home to Christ and my mother, Mildred T. Ellerbee,
in December of 2008. To honor him and his service during WWII, I have a link to the
photos taken during his service. After Pearl Harbor, my father had his mother Lizzie to
sign for him to enter military service at 17 years of age. James had his 18th birthday
serving in Europe and was there for the duration of the war. He proudly served in the
81st Airdrome Squadron of the United States Army Air Corps, and it is this unit that
the photo albums linked below are comprised of.
I hope this site can be helpful to those interested in the Ellerbee Family.
God has truly blessed us all!
